Mexico shares a land border with the US, allowing trucks to drive packages directly. This eliminates expensive air freight costs. UPS and FedEx have extensive Mexican ground networks.
The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (formerly NAFTA) eliminates duties on many products made in North America. Include origin certificates to qualify for zero duties.
Moderately strict. They inspect packages but process them reasonably quickly. Main delays come from Correos de México (postal service) rather than customs itself.
Some packaged foods are allowed, but many require permits. Fresh produce, meat, and dairy are generally prohibited. Candy, cookies, and processed foods are usually okay in personal quantities.
