The Verdict
UPS suits shippers who also need U.S. domestic, ground to Canada or Mexico, or several service speeds. DHL Express suits shippers who send mostly international express and get a good rate. For a one-off express parcel, they sell the same tier at about 2–4 business days to major markets, so the deciding factor is usually the price for your route and weight.

What Is Different in Practice
- Domestic reach. UPS is a U.S. domestic carrier as well as an international one. DHL Express has only a limited U.S. Express Domestic product, so it does not replace a domestic carrier.
- Ground. UPS Standard is a real road option to Canada and Mexico. DHL Express is an air network from the U.S.
- Guarantees. Neither covers everything: see the table above. Treat a date as a target unless you confirm your service is covered.
- Speed. We no longer state that DHL is 1–2 days faster. We found no public data that supports a general claim, and both sell the same tiers.
