All Carriers Compared: USPS vs UPS vs FedEx vs DHL

Every major U.S. option for international shipping in one place, with a clear starting point for each shipment

The Short Version

USPS for letters and light, non-urgent parcels. UPS or FedEx when you also ship domestically, or need ground to Canada or deferred options. DHL Express as a strong international express option. For express parcels the three couriers sell the same tiers at similar speeds, so the deciding factor is usually the price for your route.

Understanding the Cost Differences

  • List prices are not what you pay. Shipping software and resellers often sell courier labels well below list price. Compare net prices.
  • Chargeable weight decides many parcels. See the DIM weight guide.
  • Surcharges move every week. Courier fuel surcharges have been unusually high during 2026, so an old price can mislead.
  • Duties are separate. See duties and taxes and the duty calculator.
  • Cover differs. See shipping insurance before sending something valuable.
