USPS status for the UAE
USPS suspended acceptance to the UAE and many Middle East destinations from 3 March 2026 because of disrupted air transport. Other posts paused too; Poland's post, for example, restarted UAE mail in May. The UAE does not appear on USPS's list dated 23 October 2026, and Priority Mail International and Priority Mail Express International appear in the current USPS listing for the UAE. We could not find a dated USPS resumption notice, so confirm at the counter or on the alert page. Regional disruption can return quickly. Global Express Guaranteed remains suspended.
How long shipping to the UAE takes
Dubai is one of the world's busiest cargo hubs, so express parcels usually reach Dubai and Abu Dhabi in 2 to 4 business days. Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates may take a day longer. Al Ain and remote areas take more. Emirates Post delivers USPS items mainly to P.O. boxes, and Priority Mail International usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, with First-Class Package International Service up to 3. Friday prayers and Ramadan hours can shorten office time, and airspace disruption has caused delays at times.
What UAE customs charges
Customs falls under each emirate's authority, such as Dubai Customs, working within GCC rules.
- Duty: usually 5% of the CIF value. Alcohol and tobacco carry much higher rates, and some goods are exempt.
- Low-value limit: the threshold is about AED 1,000 (roughly US$272). Dubai's 2023 notice restored the GCC figure after a brief AED 300 rule. One 2026 consultancy report describes a notice from July 2026 affirming AED 1,000 for e-commerce in Dubai. Older pages quoting AED 300 may be out of date, and the USPS listing mentions AED 500 for non-commercial items. Confirm with your carrier.
- VAT: 5% since 2018, charged on CIF value plus duty and paid by the addressee. Being under the duty limit does not automatically remove VAT.
Examples: an AED 800 order. No duty, up to AED 40 VAT. An AED 2,000 order: AED 100 duty, then 5% VAT on AED 2,100 = AED 105, total AED 205 before the courier's fee. Excise goods such as tobacco and sweetened drinks may be taxed at any value. See duties and taxes.
Business shipments: USPS's UAE listing notes that commercial items above 500 dirhams need authenticated invoices, a certificate of origin and a contents list. The UAE is also moving to 12-digit GCC tariff codes, so give full codes where possible. Free zone companies follow different entry steps.

Also watch

USPS Priority Mail Express bars valuables such as jewelry and watches. See USPS prohibited items.
Tips for the UAE
- Include a P.O. box for postal items: USPS's listing requires a box number and the emirate, plus mobile and email if available. Couriers can use a street or building with a mobile number.
- Add a Makani or landmark for couriers: addressing by building and area is still normal in Dubai.
- Do not count on USPS DDP: it is not available to the UAE, so duty-paid delivery means a courier.
- Declare precise values: a commercial invoice helps even for a personal order.
- Avoid sensitive media: books and films may be reviewed for content.
From elsewhere?
The UAE's rules apply to any non-GCC origin. Goods moving between GCC states follow their own process. From the UK and Europe, express takes 2 to 4 days. Workers sending home should see India and the Philippines, where the return lanes have their own limits.
UAE shipping questions
Does USPS deliver to Dubai?
As of the 23 October 2026 list, the UAE was not suspended, and items go via Emirates Post, usually to a P.O. box. Check the alert page first.
Is there VAT on small parcels?
It can apply even when no duty is due. Some sources treat low-value items as exempt, so ask the carrier.
Is FedEx or DHL better?
Both operate large networks in Dubai; compare FedEx vs DHL.
Can I ship to Abu Dhabi the same way?
Yes. Customs authority differs, but 5% duty and 5% VAT follow the same pattern.
